Bay Homes was founded by locals Dave and Kathy McCully and Adam and Deborah Bowden. We specialise in all types of residential new builds, renovations and extensions in the wider Bream Bay area including One Tree Point, Ruakaka, Waipu, Langs Beach, Mangawhai and Whangarei.
Dave and Kathy or Adam and Deborah work together with you providing a professional, customised service that gives you the freedom and flexibility to complete your project, just how you want it.
Working with Bay Homes you will experience the warmth and care of a small local business combined with the expertise and exceptional workmanship of our experienced, knowledgeable builders.
Adam has extensive experience in the industry having built in New Zealand, Australia and Abu Dhabi. This experience encompasses all types of building work, from small and large commercial jobs, to residential homes, high end architectural renovations and even an interior fit out of a luxury super yacht.
He has always enjoyed residential construction the most and finds seeing the enjoyment and satisfaction of happy customers at the end of a project very rewarding.
When working with Adam you can be assured the job will be done right. There is no cutting corners, he is all about providing a high quality job for the whole build, not just the bits that you can see.
Adam, originally from Kamo, moved back to Northland with his wife Deborah in 2014 and they have since built their first home together in Ruakaka and had three sons. Living a short stroll to Ruakaka Beach, Adam loves all that the area has to offer. In his spare time he most enjoys getting out on the water fishing or diving but also plays squash, guitar and is partial to a round of golf.
Dave feels fortunate to have grown up in Northland and over his time in the industry has seen and been a part of the significant changes to the local building landscape.
He started his apprenticeship with a local company while still at high school and became fully qualified in 2007, completing a Certificate in Carpentry. He has been involved in a variety of projects all over the Upper North Island, particularly Bream Bay. From small scale renovations, light commercial to high spec architectural homes.
After several years contracting and project management Dave decided to start his own venture to share his skills and knowledge and be his own boss. The opportunity to work outdoors, see a project take shape and deliver a quality home are the key motivators for Dave’s passion for the building trade. He also enjoys the challenge of creating unique detail features.
Dave spends most of his spare time with his family. You will otherwise find him enjoying what this spectacular area has to offer; fishing, diving or hunting.
Deborah grew up in Northland and after school moved away to complete a Bachelor of Science at The University of Auckland majoring in Geography and Statistics. She began her career in Market Research but ended up returning to study in 2011 and completing a Post Graduate Diploma in Secondary Teaching (Mathematics). She taught at Rangitoto College and Whangarei Boys’ High School before starting a family and has since taught senior maths part-time, both online and at Bream Bay College, in between having her three sons with Adam.
Alongside raising her family and teaching, Deborah helps with the business in whatever capacity she is needed. She has really enjoyed working alongside Adam, Dave and Kathy to start Bay Homes from scratch and build it up to the company it is today. She appreciates a good spreadsheet and a well organised folder but her absolute favourite part of the job is handing the keys over to our amazing clients brand new homes at the end of a build.
In her spare time, Deborah enjoys time at the beach, on the boat, surfing and soaking up the Northland sun with family and friends.
Kathy is a Bream Bay local who after high school became a qualified Secondary school teacher, with a Diploma of Business Studies, a Bachelor of Maori Development and a Post Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Secondary) from Auckland University. She has taught at the local high school since 2011 in between expanding her family with Dave and currently teaches Year 9/10 Social Studies alongside working for Bay Homes.
When Bay Homes was founded in 2018, Kathy did not realise the varied roles she would undertake in the business and moving forward how her role would evolve but she enjoys the challenge. Kathy has an eye for detail and design and enjoys the creative aspect of building and interior design. Working alongside Dave to project manage has been a natural progression and a system that means clients get the perfect combination of good communication, creativity and construction industry skill and knowledge. Getting to know clients and helping to create their dreams is the most rewarding part of the job.
When not working, Kathy volunteers for the local hockey club and also plays hockey herself. She loves competitive sport, hiking and the beautiful beaches of Bream Bay. Most importantly she enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
